INTRODUCING YOUR PUPPY TO THE OUTDOORS
Your puppy’s destined for the great outdoors. Whether their future is in hiking, camping paddleboarding or anything in between, be sure to take it slow and start with the basics. Here’s a quick guide to help you keep them on track!
KEY MILESTONES FOR YOUR PUPPY
EXPOSURE & SOCIALIZATION
Now’s the time to bring your puppy out into the yard and begin exposing them to the elements and general outdoor environments. Keep socializing run times short, regular and less intense. Remember to let them romp around as puppies to start.
INTRODUCING SKILLS
Introduce them to hiking trails, water and your favorite environments. Slowly introduce skills needed for your favorite outdoor activities, without providing any of the physical risks for puppies’ growing bones, joints and muscles. You can begin conditioning to help them develop strength and stimulate their mind and body.
STARTING ACTIVITY
Begin teaching your adult dog to perform specific tasks related to running, hiking and all your favorite activities. Deciding when to start training will depend on your puppy’s breed and behavioral training foundation. Consult your veterinarian before beginning a training program.
